Blepharoplasty

Reveal a more rested, vibrant version of yourself

What is Eyelid Surgery?

The appearance of the eyes can be the first sign of aging. People often say they look old or tired and report extra upper eyelid skin, hooding, bags, drooping or wrinkles. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a transformative procedure that rejuvenates the delicate area around the eyes. The goal is a refreshed, brighter, and natural look that restores a youthful contour to the eyes while preserving your unique expression.

Facial surgery is the ultimate expression of art and science in plastic surgery. It requires a profound respect for the individual’s identity. My goal is to enhance, not alter, the features that make you uniquely you.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Eyelid Surgery?

The exact same technique is not used for everyone

You can’t use a standard technique for everyone. As surgeons, we have a wide range of options. The technique must be customized to a patient’s expectations and what their anatomy will allow me to do in a safe and predictable way.

This procedure is ideal for individuals concerned with:

  • Excess, drooping skin on the upper eyelids that creates a “hooded” appearance.
  • Puffiness or “bags” under the eyes that create a tired look.
  • Fine lines and excess skin on the lower eyelids.
  • Obstructed vision due to severely sagging upper eyelid skin.

Natural, Elegant Results

There is an art to an exceptional Blepharoplasty. It requires not only surgical expertise but also a deep understanding of facial anatomy and an eye for balance. More is not always better—a refined, natural result comes from thoughtful restraint, technical precision, and a shared vision.

What To Expect

I take a comprehensive view to ensure your eyelid procedure harmonizes with your overall facial anatomy. Together, we’ll craft a plan that balances your lifestyle, expectations, and the nuances of your unique face.

What I Evaluate During Your Consultation

Every consultation is a thoughtful, collaborative process. Your vision and comfort are central to the plan we create together

We will have several consultations to create a detailed surgical plan. I coordinate with your internist for medical clearance and take a whole-body approach, considering your health, nutrition, and lifestyle to ensure your results are beautiful, natural-looking, and long-lasting.

  • The natural shape of your eyes and the tone of your eyelids.
  • Excess skin on the upper or lower lids.
  • Puffiness or under-eye bags, which may be due to herniated fat pads.
  • Muscle laxity or bulging that becomes more visible when smiling.
  • Position of your brows, as a heavy brow can contribute to the appearance of excess eyelid skin.

Safety & Realistic Expectations

Safety is my highest priority. I will carefully review your medical history and recommend a pre-operative regimen, such as a low-salt diet, to optimize your healing. We will review photos and look in the mirror together, discussing your anatomy in detail to ensure we have a shared goal. This meticulous attention to detail allows me to consistently deliver results that are natural-looking, beautiful, and quick to heal.

What to Expect During Surgery

Blepharoplasty is performed under light general anesthesia with a board-certified anesthesiologist

This procedure can involve the removal of a combination of excess skin, fat or muscle. The incision can be hidden in your upper eyelid crease, below your lash line or inside the eyelid. Eyelid anatomy is complex due to the number of small anatomic features packed into a small space, so it is important to have a plastic surgeon who is precise and skilled.

Incisions are designed to be exceptionally discreet:

Once the incisions are made, I carefully remove or reposition skin, fat, and muscle. For the lower lids, I often redistribute fat to smooth the transition between the cheek and eyelid, correcting hollows and creating a seamless contour.

The incision is hidden in the natural eyelid crease.

The incision may be placed just beneath the lash line or, in many cases, inside the lower eyelid (a transconjunctival approach) leaving no visible external scar.

Recovery & Healing

You will wake up comfortably with a cooling compress over your eyes. I provide a detailed icing protocol to minimize swelling and bruising. You can shower and wash your face by the second or third day. Stitches are small and removed within a week. Most patients return to work in 5 to 7 days.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no “best” age. The right time for surgery depends on your individual anatomy, the degree of aging, and when you feel ready. I have performed facial rejuvenation on patients in their 40s as well as their 70s. The key factor is your health and your personal goals, not the number on your driver’s license.

This is the most common and important concern. My entire surgical philosophy is centered on creating natural results. An “overdone” look is the result of pulling the skin too tight. My modern techniques focus on repositioning the deeper foundational layers (the SMAS) vertically, against gravity. The skin is then gently redraped without tension. The goal is to make you look rested and refreshed, not like a different person.

While surgery turns back the clock, it doesn’t stop it from ticking. The results of a facelift or blepharoplasty are very long-lasting. You will always look younger than you would have without the procedure. A healthy lifestyle, diligent sun protection, and a good skincare regimen will help maintain your beautiful results for years to come. See my skincare page for more information. Any fat grafting results are considered permanent, as the transferred cells become a living part of your tissue.

Absolutely. In fact, combining procedures is often ideal for achieving the most harmonious and balanced result. For example, a facelift is frequently paired with eyelid surgery, a brow lift, or fat grafting to address all aspects of facial aging simultaneously. This approach is both effective and efficient, requiring only one recovery period. We will discuss the safest and most effective combination for you during your consultation.
Non-surgical treatments are excellent tools for maintenance and for addressing specific, less advanced concerns like fine lines (Botox) or minor volume loss (fillers). See my injectables page for more information here*** They can be a great starting point or used to complement surgical results. However, for significant sagging, skin laxity, and extensive volume loss, surgical rejuvenation provides a more definitive and long-lasting solution. We can discuss a comprehensive plan that may include both surgical and non-surgical treatments.
